Dear Filmmakers and Film Lovers,

    Welcome to the sixth annual TromaDance Film Festival. TromaDance is an opportunity for everyone who’s ever picked up a camera to have his or her work seen without the compromises required by elitist cartel interference. TromaDance is proud to be the first and only film festival of the people, for the people, and by the people.

    The 2005 official selections are by far the best films in TromaDance’s six-year history. This year we are presenting movies from all over the world! Congratulations and thank you to all filmmakers who submitted movies. We are also very grateful to our sponsors, without them this truly independent festival would never be possible! Most important, TromaDance would never be able to be a free, no charge festival without our diligent, art-loving, unpaid volunteers, many of whom must sleep on the floor, subsist on junk food and learn to defecate in a paper bag in order to make this wonderful event possible.

    The TromaDance spirit has blossomed in the six years since it was founded by Lloyd Kaufman. We are now seeing fan-driven TromaDance Festivals sprout up in New Mexico, Canada, Portland, New York and elsewhere. There are now Tromapaloozas, grass-roots concerts raising money for and fighting for independent art on both coasts.

    We believe the Sundance Film Festival has recently become friendlier toward independent filmmakers and seems to be selecting more genuinely independent movies. Perhaps this perceived change is due to being influenced by your idealism, democratic spirit and real love for reel independence.
